Maytag Appliance Repair Near Me in The Colony, TX
Maytag has long been known for laundry. When a Maytag washer stops mid cycle or a dryer leaves clothes damp, the whole week of laundry waits. We repair Maytag appliances across The Colony and nearby cities, and we start by finding out what the machine is doing, not by guessing at a part.
Maytag washers and dryers share a lot of design with other Whirlpool family brands, and that works in your favor. Common parts are widely stocked and the fault patterns are well understood. We test the lid lock, the water inlet, the drain pump, the heating parts, and the controls in the same order the cycle uses them.
Maytag also makes dishwashers, refrigerators, and ranges, and we repair those too. Start with the model number. It tells us the exact parts and the code list for your machine. If you have not found it yet, our guide to finding your Maytag model number shows the usual spots.
What you get with every Maytag call
- You talk to a person who checks the schedule with you.
- We ask for the model number and any display code first.
- We test the lid lock, the pump, and the valves before we replace anything.
- The cost is clear before the repair begins.
- You get to see the part that failed.
- We will tell you if a replacement is the better choice.
Many Maytag washer calls start with something small: a lid that will not lock, hoses hooked to the wrong faucets, or too many suds. Maytag lists a code for each of these. We check them first, because they are quick to fix and never a reason to buy a new machine.
Maytag Washer Repair: Top Load, Front Load, and What Sets Them Apart
Maytag washers come in a few styles, and each one fails in its own way. Knowing which one you own helps us bring the right parts.
A top load washer with an agitator spins a post in the center of the tub. A top load HE washer uses a low profile washplate instead, which is why Maytag tells you to spread a load evenly around the washplate. A front load washer tumbles clothes behind a sealed door and relies on a drain pump, a door boot, and a door lock. Top load washers tend to stop on a lid lock or an unbalanced load. Front load washers tend to log drain, fill, or door faults.
That is why one code can mean different things on different machines. LF on a top load washer means it is taking too long to fill, which is the same thing F8 E1 means on many models. A lid code only makes sense on a top load. Tell us which style you own and we match the test to the machine.
If your washer and dryer are one stacked unit, see our washer and dryer combo repair page. For a dryer that will not heat, see our dryer repair page.
Tell us these things about your Maytag washer
- Top load or front load.
- Whether there is an agitator post in the tub.
- The code on the display and when it appears.
- Whether it stopped mid cycle or never started.
Maytag Error Codes: What LF, LdL, HC, Ofb, and F1E1 Mean
Maytag codes are short, but they are specific. Here is what Maytag says each one means and what we test behind it. Washer codes come first, then the dishwasher.
| Code | What it means | What we check |
|---|---|---|
| HC on a top load washer | The hot and cold inlet hoses are reversed. It shows at the end of the cycle. | Hose connections at the wall and at the washer, and the inlet valve. |
| LdL on a top load washer | The lid is not locking. | Items under the lid, buildup around the lid lock, the lock itself, and its wiring. |
| LdU on a top load washer | The lid cannot unlock because the washer senses something on top of it. | Anything resting on the lid, then the lid lock and the lid switch. |
| LF, Lo FL, or F8 E1 | The washer is taking too long to fill. | Both faucets, inlet hoses and screens, and the water inlet valve. |
| drn on a top load washer | The washer is not draining properly. | Drain hose, standpipe, and the drain pump. |
| Ofb on a top load washer | The load is out of balance, so the washer runs a balance routine. | Load size and placement, level, and the suspension. |
| OL on a top load washer | The load is too large, so the washer drains the water and detergent. | Load size, detergent amount, and the water level sensor. |
| Sud on a washer | Too many suds. | HE detergent use, the drain hose, and drain flow. |
| F1E1 on a dishwasher | A control module problem. | A power reset, then the control board and its wiring. |
| F9E1 on a dishwasher | A long drain. Water is not leaving fast enough. | Filter, drain hose, drain pump, and the disposal connection. |
The meanings above follow Maytag help pages. Models differ, so the manual for yours comes first.
Maytag says to press Start or Pause once to clear a system error on a top load washer, then press it again to restart. On front load models, Maytag suggests pressing Pause or Cancel twice, then Power once. If the same code returns right away, the fault is real.
Take a photo of the display before you clear it. A code that appears during the fill points to the water supply. One that appears at the end of a cycle, such as HC, points to how the hoses were connected. Give us the code and the model number when you call so we can plan the right parts.
Common Maytag Problems and How We Fix Them
These eight Maytag faults account for many of our calls. Look for your symptom and read the fix.
Where Maytag faults usually start
- Top load washer
- Lid lock or lid switch, drain pump, water inlet valve, and the washplate drive.
- Front load washer
- Door lock, drain pump, door boot, and the bearings.
- Dryer
- Heating element, thermal fuse, drive belt, and the vent path.
- Dishwasher
- Drain pump, inlet valve, door latch, and the control module.
- Refrigerator
- Evaporator fan, defrost system, and the ice maker.
- Range and oven
- Igniter, bake and broil elements, and the control board.
Top load washer will not spin
Water fills and the washer soaks or agitates, but the tub will not spin. The display may show LdL or Ofb.
- Likely cause
- A lid lock or switch that no longer registers, an unbalanced load, or a worn drive part.
- Our fix
- We test the lock and the switch, check the load balance and the level, and replace the part that fails.
Washer will not drain
Water stays in the tub, or the display shows drn or F9 E1.
- Likely cause
- A kinked drain hose, a clogged pump filter on a front load model, or a worn drain pump.
- Our fix
- We clear the drain path and test the pump, and replace it only if the motor is dead.
Washer fills slowly or not at all
The washer sits idle, or the display shows LF, Lo FL, or F8 E1.
- Likely cause
- A closed faucet, kinked hoses, clogged inlet screens, or a failed water inlet valve.
- Our fix
- We start with the faucets and the screens, then test the inlet valve before replacing it.
Water temperature is wrong
Warm washes run cold, or the washer shows HC at the end of the cycle.
- Likely cause
- The hot and cold hoses are swapped, or an inlet valve coil has failed.
- Our fix
- We check the hose connections first, then test each valve coil.
Dryer runs but does not heat
Clothes stay damp after a full cycle. The drum turns and the dryer may show a vent warning.
- Likely cause
- A failed element, a blown thermal fuse, or a restricted vent. On gas dryers, a weak igniter.
- Our fix
- We meter the element, the fuse, and the igniter, clear the vent, and replace only what tests bad.
Dryer takes two cycles
Towels and jeans stay damp and the laundry room feels humid after a load.
- Likely cause
- A packed or crushed vent, a worn drum roller, or a failing cycling thermostat.
- Our fix
- We clear the vent, check airflow, and test the thermostat and the rollers.
Dishwasher leaves water or dirty dishes
Water stands in the tub, dishes come out gritty, or the display shows F9E1 or H2O.
- Likely cause
- A clogged filter, a kinked drain hose, a failed drain pump, or a water supply problem.
- Our fix
- We clean the filter, clear the hose, and test the pump and the inlet valve before replacing anything.
Refrigerator warm or ice maker stopped
The fridge runs warm, or the ice maker stops making ice.
- Likely cause
- A failed evaporator fan, a defrost fault, or a frozen water line.
- Our fix
- We test the fan, the defrost system, and the water line, and replace the part that fails the test.
Laundry rooms in North Texas homes are often in a hot garage or a closet with little airflow. Heat and lint make dryers work harder and wear out parts faster. Keep the vent short, straight, and clear, and leave room around the dryer. Mineral scale from North Texas water can clog washer inlet screens and slow filling.

How to Find Your Maytag Model Number
The model number tells us which parts and which code list apply to your Maytag. The tag is not in the same place on every appliance. Here is where Maytag says to look.
Where the model tag usually sits
- Refrigerator
- Top left side of the food compartment, or the top front of it. On some models, on the food liner at the upper right of the crisper pan.
- Washer
- On the back behind the control panel, inside the lid at the bottom right corner, or on the back baseframe to the left.
- Dryer
- Upper left of the cabinet at the back, on the back frame with the door open, or inside the door. On gas dryers, behind the access panel.
- Dishwasher
- Upper left corner of the frame, or the underside of the control panel.
- Range
- Inside the burner box, or underneath on the bottom.
- Microwave
- On the back, the upper left of the cavity, the control panel side, or the base frame with the door open.
Maytag lists several possible spots for each appliance, since the tag has moved over the years. Check the easy spots first with a flashlight, and take a photo of the tag so you can read it to us.
No tag, or one you cannot read? Describe the appliance and its age, and we will take it from there. The technician confirms the exact model before any part is ordered.
Maytag Not Working? Six Checks Before You Call
None of these checks needs tools, and together they take about fifteen minutes. They may fix the problem, and they will tell us a lot if they do not.
Check the lid and what is on it
On a top load washer, close the lid fully and clear the top of the washer. Maytag lists LdL when the lid will not lock and LdU when something on the washer keeps it from unlocking. Look for a laundry basket, a detergent box, or dried detergent around the lock.
Next: If the lid closes and the code stays, the lid lock or the switch is the next part we test.
Look at the hose connections
Hot goes to the hot faucet and cold goes to the cold. When they are swapped, Maytag shows HC at the end of the cycle. Also check that both faucets are fully open and that the hoses are not kinked.
Next: Right hoses, open faucets, and still no fill point to the inlet valve.
Check the load
A small heavy item, such as a rug or a wet towel, can throw the tub off balance. Spread the load out and remove one bulky item. Maytag also lists OL for a load that is too large.
Next: If the washer spins after you rebalance it, the machine is fine.
Use only HE detergent
Too much soap, or the wrong type, causes a Sud code, slow draining, and extra rinses. Cut the dose back and run a rinse and spin.
Next: If the code returns with the right detergent, the drain path is next.
Reset the control the Maytag way
On a top load washer, press Start or Pause once to clear a system error, then press it again to restart. On a front load washer, press Pause or Cancel twice, then Power once.
Next: A code that comes straight back is a real fault. Write it down and call us.
Check the vent behind the dryer
A dryer that shows a vent warning or needs two cycles may have a crushed or packed vent. Pull the dryer out gently and check the duct for kinks and lint.
Next: A clear vent with no heat points to the element or the thermal fuse.
Safety first. Unplug the machine before you open a panel, and keep water away from plugs and cords. Do not reach into a moving tub. If you smell gas near a dryer or a range, do not use switches or flames. Leave the home and call your gas company from outside.
Ready for a technician to take a look?
The Four Steps of Our Maytag Repair Visit
Here is what to expect from your first call to a Maytag that works again.
Tell us what the machine did last
Describe what the Maytag was doing when it stopped, the code on the display, and the model number if you have it. A person answers and books the next opening.
We test in cycle order
The technician follows the cycle: power, lid or door, water in, wash, drain, spin, and heat. The step where it stops shows us which part to test with a meter.
Cost explained up front
We walk you through what we found and what it costs to fix. You can approve, think it over, or decline.
The repair and the test run
After the repair we run a full test and walk you through the result, so you know it is fixed.
Have this ready for your call
- The model number from the tag.
- The code on the display, or a photo of it.
- Top load or front load, for a washer.
- What the machine did right before it stopped.
- A clear path to the washer or the dryer.
Maytag Repair or Replace? A Simple Way to Decide
Maytag laundry appliances often reward a repair. The decision gets harder with an older unit and a big repair.
Washers and dryers are built to run for many years when they are cared for, and common Maytag parts are easy to find. A lid lock, a pump, an inlet valve, a heating element, or a belt is rarely a reason to retire a machine that otherwise works.
The call gets closer when the machine is old and the repair is large. Worn bearings, a failed motor, or a rusted tub add up fast. We explain where your appliance stands and what each choice means. There is no new unit for us to sell, so the advice stays honest.
How to Keep Your Maytag Washer and Dryer Running Longer
Here is how to avoid the most common Maytag calls we get.
- Use only HE detergent in HE washers. It prevents suds codes and slow draining.
- Keep the lid clear.A weight on the lid can keep a top load washer from unlocking.
- Spread loads around the washplate.Even loads avoid balance stops and reduce wear.
- Match the hoses to the faucets.Hot to hot and cold to cold avoids the HC code.
- Clean the dryer vent every year.A clear, short vent means shorter dry times.
- Leave the washer lid or door open between loads.Air dries the tub and slows mold.
- Check washer hoses each year.Replace rubber hoses that bulge, crack, or rust at the ends.
- Keep the machines level.A rocking washer or dryer shakes parts loose.
Common Maytag Repair Questions, Answered
Answers from our team. If your question is not here, call and ask.
Is same day Maytag repair available near me?
Same day service is common when the schedule has room. The number is (214) 771-7103. Tell us the appliance, the model, and what it is doing.
Which Maytag appliances do you repair?
Maytag laundry is our most common call, and we also repair Maytag dishwashers, refrigerators, ranges, ovens, and microwaves. Our appliance repair services page has the full list. Not sure about your model? Call and ask.
What does the LF or F8 E1 code mean on a Maytag washer?
Maytag lists LF, Lo FL, and F8 E1 as the washer taking too long to fill. Open both faucets fully and straighten any kinked hoses. If the supply is fine, suspect the water inlet valve.
What does LdL mean on a Maytag washer?
LdL means the lid is not locking. Check for items under the lid and for detergent buildup around the lid lock. If the lid closes and the code stays, the lid lock or its wiring needs a test.
What does HC mean on my Maytag washer?
HC means the hot and cold inlet hoses are reversed. It shows at the end of the cycle. Turn off the water, swap the hoses to the right faucets, and run another cycle.
Why is my Maytag washer not spinning?
An unbalanced load, a lid that is not locking, or a drive problem can stop the spin. Rebalance the load and check the lid. If the tub still will not spin, a technician can test the lid lock and the drive. See our washer repair page.
Why is my Maytag dryer not heating?
A dryer that tumbles but stays cold usually has a failed heating element, a blown thermal fuse, or a clogged vent. Check the breaker first, since a double breaker can trip on one side only. A technician tests each part with a meter. See our dryer repair page.
What do the H2O and F9E1 codes mean on a Maytag dishwasher?
Maytag lists H2O as the dishwasher not detecting water and F9E1 as a long drain. For H2O, check the water supply and the hose. For F9E1, clean the filter and check the drain hose. If either code returns, call us.
Where is the model number on my Maytag?
On a washer it is often on the back behind the control panel or inside the lid at the bottom right corner. On a dryer it is often inside the door or on the back frame. See our model number guide.
Do I lose my Maytag warranty if an independent company repairs it?
Check your warranty before you book. Some policies cover only repairs done by the maker. We are an independent company and are not connected to Maytag.
Can you give me a price for Maytag repair over the phone?
We keep prices off the page because they depend on the part and the model. The technician explains the cause and the price together, and you choose what to do.
Is it worth repairing a Maytag washer or dryer?
A simple part on a unit in its first decade is usually worth fixing. A big repair on an older unit is a closer call, and we give you a straight answer.
Is Maytag the same as Whirlpool?
Maytag is its own brand, and Whirlpool Corporation has owned it since 2006. Many designs and parts overlap, but the model number decides which part fits. We repair both. See our Whirlpool repair page.
What helps the technician work faster?
Make sure someone will be home, find the model tag, and clear a path. A photo of any error code is very useful.
