GE Appliance Repair Near Me in The Colony, TX
GE appliances turn up in a lot of kitchens and laundry rooms, from top freezer refrigerators to Café wall ovens. When one fails, the model number is the fastest road to the right answer, and GE makes it easy: a GE model number always begins and ends with a letter. We repair GE appliances across The Colony and nearby cities.
GE Appliances is based in Louisville, Kentucky, and has been owned by Haier since 2016. Construction of its Appliance Park campus there began in 1951. The GE name on an appliance today means GE Appliances, a company separate from the General Electric of old, with its own support and parts network.
The family also includes GE Profile, Café, Monogram, and Hotpoint in the Americas, and we repair all of them. Our guide to finding your GE model number shows where the tag hides on each appliance, and our explanation of the GE brand family shows how the lines relate.
What you get with every GE call
- We pick up, ask a few questions, and book the soonest slot.
- We ask for the model number and any code on the display.
- We check the simple causes before we pull a part.
- Nothing starts until you have heard the price.
- The failed part is shown to you, with a plain explanation.
- If the repair does not make sense, we tell you, even if it costs us the job.
Many GE codes point away from the appliance. A range that shows Bad Line has wiring that was connected wrong, a dishwasher that shows C6 has incoming water that is too cool, and an H2O on a washer often means a closed water valve. We check those first because they are quick to fix.
How to Find Your GE Model Number
On a GE, the model number settles which parts fit and which codes apply. You will find the tag in a different place depending on the appliance. These spots come from GE guidance.
Where the model tag usually sits
- Top freezer refrigerator
- Inside the fresh food section on the upper left wall, or in the freezer on the ceiling near the front. It can also be near the temperature controls, behind the crisper drawers, or on the bottom front edge.
- Side by side refrigerator
- In the fresh food section: on the bottom floor, behind the crisper drawers, on an inside wall near the crispers or near the top, or on the ceiling area.
- Bottom freezer refrigerator
- On the left or right interior wall near the top of the fresh food section, or on an interior wall of the freezer.
- Dishwasher
- On the left front inside edge, the right front inside edge, or the right side edge of the door.
- Range
- Behind the door on the front frame, under the control panel frame, or inside the drawer frame. Some gas models have it behind the rear control panel.
- Cooktop
- Underneath the rear left or front right surface unit on electric models, under the cooktop at the rear right, under a control knob, or on the bottom.
- Front load washer
- Inside the door panel on the face of the wash compartment, or on the lower right front corner outside.
- Top load washer
- Under the lid near the right hinge, on the back of the control panel, in the bottom left corner, or on the back near the water inlets.
- Dryer
- On the inside front face of the dryer compartment, on the left or right side. Open the door to see it.
GE says your model number always begins and ends with a letter, which helps you tell it from the serial number. Newer tags may also carry a QR code that opens product information when you scan it with a phone.
If the tag has worn away or is covered by a panel, give us the appliance type, the color, and the approximate age. We will narrow it down and double check the model when we arrive, before any part is ordered.

GE, Profile, Café, Monogram, and Hotpoint: How the GE Family Fits Together
One company makes all of them, but the names mean different things. Knowing which line you own helps us pick the right parts and the right test.
GE is the core line, with the widest range of refrigerators, ranges, dishwashers, washers, and dryers. GE Profile is the feature rich line, Café is the design led line, Monogram is the premium built in line, and Hotpoint is the value line sold in the Americas.
Parts and codes often overlap between lines, but not always. A Profile oven and a GE oven may share a heating element and differ in the control. That is why we ask for the model number before the first visit and match parts to it, not to the badge on the front.
Since 2016 the whole family has been part of Haier, which can use the GE name on its appliances until 2056. The brand, the parts network, and the model numbers carry on as before, and we repair the whole family.
Electrical safety. A range that shows Bad Line is wired wrong. Do not keep using it. Switch off the breaker and have an electrician correct the wiring.
Tell us these things about your GE
- The model number, which begins and ends with a letter.
- Which line it is: GE, Profile, Café, Monogram, or Hotpoint.
- Any code on the display.
- What changed before it failed, such as a power outage or a plumbing job.
GE Error Codes: What F2, F3, F9, C1, C3, and H20 Mean
GE lists oven codes in groups and dishwasher codes one at a time. These are the ones we meet most, with GE's meaning and the first thing we test.
| Code | What it means | What we check |
|---|---|---|
| F0, F1, F6, or F7 on an oven | A keypanel problem, often needing a new keypanel. | Keypanel, ribbon connection, and the control. |
| F2 or F20 on an oven | The oven temperature passed a preset limit for an unknown reason. | Temperature sensor, relays, and the control. |
| F3 or F4 on an oven | An oven sensor problem, usually needing a new sensor. | Sensor resistance and its wiring. |
| F9 or FC on an oven | A component failure in the door lock circuit. | Door lock motor, switch, and wiring. |
| Bad Line on a range | Power is connected but wired incorrectly. | Supply wiring, to be corrected by an installer or electrician. |
| C1 on a dishwasher | The pump out during the drain ran over two minutes. | Air gap, drain hose, disposer, and drain pump. |
| C3 on a dishwasher | The dishwasher will not drain. | Filter, drain path, and drain pump. |
| C6 on a dishwasher | Incoming water is too cool, below about 120 degrees Fahrenheit. | Water heater setting and the water temperature sensor. |
| H20 on a dishwasher | Low water. The fill phase did not get enough. | Hot water valve, supply line, and inlet valve. |
| 999 on a dishwasher | Leak detection on some models, or a control reset on others. | Base pan, hose connections, and a control reset. |
Based on GE support pages. Codes vary by model, and your manual lists the ones for yours.
GE says that when an oven shows a fault code, switching it off at the breaker for a minute or two may clear it, and that a trained technician should be called if it does not. Leave the oven off at the breaker until it is repaired. For a dishwasher, disconnecting power for a minute or two can clear some codes.
Not every code applies to every model, which is why the model number matters. Photograph the display before you reset anything, and tell us whether the code appeared during a self clean, a power cut, or a normal cycle.
Common GE Problems and How We Fix Them
We see these eight faults on GE appliances again and again. Each one lists the signs and our fix.
Where GE faults usually start
- Refrigerator
- Evaporator fan, defrost heater, water inlet valve, and ice maker.
- Dishwasher
- Drain pump, float switch, inlet valve, and detergent cup.
- Range and oven
- Bake and broil elements, temperature sensor, igniter, and door lock.
- Cooktop
- Surface elements, burner switches, and spark modules.
- Washer
- Water inlet valve, pressure sensor, lid switch, and drain pump.
- Dryer
- Heating element, thermal cutoff, sensor, and the control board.
Refrigerator not cooling
The fridge section is warm, the freezer is frosty, or the compressor runs constantly.
- Likely cause
- A dead evaporator fan, a defrost problem, or condenser coils matted with dust.
- Our fix
- We vacuum the coils, spin the fans by hand, and meter the defrost heater and thermostat.
Ice maker stops or leaks
Ice stops, cubes are small, or water collects under the refrigerator.
- Likely cause
- A frozen fill tube, a failed inlet valve, or a blocked water filter.
- Our fix
- We thaw the line, test the valve, and check the filter and the connections.
Dishwasher will not drain
Water stands in the tub, or the display shows C1, C3, or FTD.
- Likely cause
- A blocked air gap, a kinked hose, a disposer plug, or a failed pump.
- Our fix
- We work backward from the sink: disposer, air gap, hose, filter, and only then the pump.
Dishwasher will not fill
The tub stays dry or runs low, and the display shows H20.
- Likely cause
- A closed hot water valve, a kinked supply line, or a failed inlet valve.
- Our fix
- We confirm the valve is open and the line is clear, then put a meter on the inlet valve coil.
Oven will not heat or shows F3
The oven lights but stays cold, or a fault code appears.
- Likely cause
- A burned out bake element, a sensor reading wrong, or a control fault.
- Our fix
- We read the sensor resistance and test the element before replacing either.
Oven door will not unlock after self clean
The display shows Unlock Door and the door stays locked.
- Likely cause
- The control did not finish the lock cycle, or the lock motor failed.
- Our fix
- We reset the control, then test the lock motor and the switch.
Range or cooktop burner will not light
A gas burner ticks but never catches, or an electric element stays cold.
- Likely cause
- Debris in the burner port, a weak igniter, a spark module that failed, or a burned switch or element.
- Our fix
- We clean the port, test the igniter and the switch, and replace only what fails.
Washer or dryer problem
A front load washer shows H2O or a dryer runs without heat.
- Likely cause
- A shut water valve, a pressure sensor that has failed, a clogged duct, or a burned out heating element.
- Our fix
- We confirm the water is on and the duct is clear, then test the pressure sensor, the element, and the thermal fuse.
Many Colony kitchens run a refrigerator hard through the summer. Vacuuming the condenser coils and keeping the vents clear helps it run cooler and last longer.

GE Not Working? Six Checks Before You Call
Try these six checks first. They take about fifteen minutes, they need no tools, and they often turn up a simple cause.
Reset the power
For an oven fault code, switch the oven off at the breaker for a minute or two. GE says this may clear it. For a dishwasher, disconnecting power for a minute or two can clear some codes.
Next: A code that returns after a reset points to a failed part.
Look at the hot water valve
H20 on a dishwasher often means the hot water valve under the sink is not fully open, especially after plumbing work. Open it all the way and make sure the dishwasher is level.
Next: An open valve with H20 still showing points to the inlet valve.
Check the incoming water temperature
C6 means incoming water is cooler than about 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Run the nearest hot tap before you start the dishwasher, and avoid using other hot water during the cycle.
Next: Hot water at the tap and a C6 that returns point to the temperature sensor.
Check the drain path
For C1 or C3, clean the air gap, look for a kinked drain hose, and run the garbage disposal to clear its connection.
Next: A clear path with water still standing points to the drain pump.
Take Bad Line seriously
Bad Line means the range is wired incorrectly. If it appears right after an installation or a power event, stop using the range.
Next: Wiring problems belong to an installer or an electrician.
Check the washer water supply
If a front load washer shows H2O, make sure the water supply to the washer is turned on. GE says the washer runs its drain pump for four minutes while the error is active, to prevent an overfill.
Next: Open valves with the error still showing point to the pressure sensor.
Safety first. Never open an oven or handle its wiring. Turn the breaker off and let a technician do electrical work. A gas smell near a range or cooktop means no switches and no flames: step outside and call your gas company.

Your GE Repair Visit in Four Steps
From the first call to a GE that works again, the model number leads every step.
Read us the model number
Describe the problem, any code on the display, and the model number if you can find it. Remember it begins and ends with a letter. A person picks up and books the earliest visit.
We test before we replace
Our technician starts with power, water, and drain, then puts a meter on the part behind the fault. Only a part that has actually failed gets replaced.
You approve the price
Before we pick up a tool, we lay out the fault, the cost, and your options. The decision is yours.
We repair, then prove it
The technician repairs the problem, tests the result, and explains what to do to avoid it next time.
Have this ready for your call
- The model number, which begins and ends with a letter.
- Which line it is: GE, Profile, Café, Monogram, or Hotpoint.
- Any code or message showing on the display.
- Whether the power went out or plumbing work was done.
- Room to reach the front of the appliance.
GE Repair or Replace? A Practical Guide
GE appliances are common and well supplied with parts, which tips many decisions toward repair. The age of the appliance and the part that failed settle the rest.
Because GE parts are widely stocked, a failed element, valve, or sensor is a repair we can usually finish quickly. Compare that with the cost of a new appliance and the time to install it, and repair often wins on a unit that is otherwise in good shape.
Some failures settle the question. A rusted through oven liner, a split dishwasher tub, or a dead sealed system in a very old refrigerator seldom pays back a repair. We will say which side of the line your appliance falls on. Selling a new one is not our business, so there is no pressure.
How to Keep Your GE Appliances Running Longer
Most GE repairs we do could have been delayed with a little routine care.
- Clean the dishwasher filter often.A clogged filter is behind many drain codes.
- Run the disposer before the dishwasher.GE lists the disposer as part of the drain path for C1.
- Open the hot water valve fully after plumbing work.GE says a partly closed valve is a common reason for H20.
- Let the oven cool after self clean. An oven that is still hot may refuse to unlock or to start a new cycle.
- Clean the refrigerator coils each spring and fall.Dust on the coils makes the compressor run longer and hotter.
- Swap the refrigerator water filter when it is due.An old filter starves the ice maker and the dispenser.
- Keep the cooktop wiped down.Baked on spills clog burner ports and cover igniters.
- Inspect the washer hoses once a year.Bulges, kinks, and wet faucets are early warnings.
GE Repair FAQs: Your Questions Answered
Plain answers from the people who do the work. Another question? Call us.
How soon can a GE technician get to my home in The Colony?
We try for the same day whenever a technician is free. Call (214) 771-7103 to check the schedule, and tell us the appliance and any code on the display.
Which GE appliances do you repair?
We repair GE refrigerators, dishwashers, ranges, wall ovens, cooktops, microwaves, washers, and dryers, along with GE Profile, Café, Monogram, and Hotpoint models. Every service we offer is listed on our appliance repair services page.
What does F3 mean on a GE oven?
GE lists F3 and F4 as an oven sensor problem, usually needing a new sensor. Switch the oven off at the breaker for a minute or two. If the code returns, keep the oven off and call us. See our oven repair page.
What does F9 mean on a GE oven?
GE lists F9 and FC as a component failure in the door lock circuit. It often shows up after a self clean. A reset at the breaker may clear it. If it returns, the lock motor or switch needs a test.
What does Bad Line mean on a GE range?
Bad Line means power is connected but wired incorrectly. GE says an installer or electrician should correct the wiring. Do not keep using the range until it is fixed.
What does C1 mean on a GE dishwasher?
C1 means the pump out during the drain ran over two minutes. GE suggests cleaning the air gap, replacing or repositioning the hose, and running the disposer to clear it. If it persists, the drain pump needs a test. See our dishwasher repair page.
What does H20 mean on a GE dishwasher?
H20 means the dishwasher is not getting enough water during the fill phase. GE says to open the hot water valve all the way, make sure the dishwasher is level, and select another cycle option to clear the code. If the code comes back, we move on to the inlet valve.
Why is my GE refrigerator not cooling?
Dust packed on the condenser coils, a dead evaporator fan, or a defrost fault are the usual suspects. Start by cleaning the coils and freeing the vents. A frosty freezer over a warm fridge points to the defrost system or the fan. See our refrigerator repair page.
Where is the model number on my GE?
A top freezer model usually carries it high on the left wall inside the fresh food section, and a dishwasher carries it on the inside edge by the door. A GE model number always begins and ends with a letter. See our model number guide.
Is GE the same as GE Profile, Café, and Hotpoint?
They are different lines from the same company, GE Appliances. Profile and Café add features and design, Monogram is the premium built in line, and Hotpoint is the value line sold in the Americas. We repair all of them. See our explanation of the GE family.
Who owns GE appliances today?
GE Appliances is owned by Haier, which acquired it in 2016. The company is based in Louisville, Kentucky, and Haier can use the GE name until 2056.
Is my GE warranty affected if you repair it?
Warranty rules differ from one policy to the next. Check yours first. If the unit is covered, the maker may require its own service. We are independent and happy to talk it through.
Do you post prices for GE repair?
No dollar amounts are posted here, because each repair is different. We test first, then give you the price, and work starts only when you agree.
Is it worth repairing a GE?
In most cases a small repair beats a new purchase. If the repair is large and the appliance is old, we will say so, even if it means no job for us.
